Photoshoot 1

The shot which we were aiming to achieve with the above photos is the close up which we will be using for the front cover of our digipack. We are happy with the hair and make up of the model however the lighting is not perfect as we would have liked the model to be light more to ensure the bright and plasticy feel of our video is portaryed in the video as well. We are also not happy with the facial expression of the model in these shots as she is looking quite reserved and angry, coming from her eyes being quite small and eyebrows lowered. By instructing the model to open her eyes more we feel we would capture the feel good vibe which we are aiming for.

Similarly to the front shots we want to achieve a brighter look onto the back of her head to make it seem more superficial and exaggerated. We like the shots were the models arms are at a 90 degree angle rather than sqaushed up holding her head. This will work better for us when we make the image square for the digipack. The hairline of the model should be neat and pointed as the tracklist will be going down her back and that will the starting point of it so it must be neat. When reshooting we should ensure that we get enough of the models back in as that is where the tracklist will be written meaning there needs to be enough room for it.

We are happy with these images and the way that the dog and the fur coat work together. After looking at all of the photos taken in this scene we have decided that this image should show off the models side profile due to the models defined cheek bones. We will need to re shoot this as the dog looks too scruffy against the brushed fur coat however this can be easily fixed by grooming the dog.

DigiPack Design

After looking at the digipack combination design that we carried out as a group we have picked out the best bits from them in order to come up with this design for our final version.

The front and reverse of the digipack is a representation of the front and back of the models head, a way of showing that all of the content inside is what is going on inside her head. This is accurate due to the video we have created that shows her life full of wild antics. The style of front and back cover also looks like a 3d image of the artists as you can see a 360 view of her head however on a flat surface. The chosen writing which states the artists name and the song title is large in central so that it cannot be missed at first glance. We have added a parental advisory sign into the top left hand corner of the cover as it is likely to be classified as explicit due to drinking, smoking and sexual representation of women; this also ties in with some of the clothing worn in the video which has this symbol on the front of it giving us continuity.

On the reverse, the track list will be written down the back of her neck, looking almost like a tattoo as it will look like its written on her skin directly. We will include a bar code for the CDs purchase in the bottom right hand corner to weigh with the symbol in the top left corner of the front and copyright information along the right hand side, opposite the spine.

The image we will use on t inside cover will be one of the main model and the dog, as it is seen in the music video. By including an image that mirrors a scene in the video, it is a way if advertising the video for those who have brought the CD however not seen the video. Behind the CD we will add another reference to the video by including a black and white optical illusion, similar to one of them that was projected onto the screen and our model danced in front of. We feel this will work especially well due to designing more of a plain disk which will sit on top of it.

On both the disk and spine, the same font will be used as the front cover as it will also be a white background therefore keeping consistency. The colour scheme of our video is being stuck to by using white, black and red throughout. In order to keep the text completely central, the A in hard will cover over the centre of the disk however is still obviously an A  as the sides can be seen.

Throughout the digipack we have ensured that we are keeping consistency between our video which we previously created and the digipack. We have done this through mirroring scenes in photographs, using the same costume and make up, and keeping the same colour scheme.
We have also continued to retain our young target audience by continuing to use '#hard' allowing not only the video but the album to be promoted for free on social media through people talking about it.

Filming Fran at Maisies Dad

A thumbnail shot of the range of shots that we took when we were in location to film the bath scenes. This was done using two photography lamps that stood either side of the free standing bath in the centre. We used the diffusers on the lamps to ensure there was not a glare on  the glossy bath.

This is one of the shots that we will use for the opening of the video . By showing the music being turned up on DJ decks it is a good way of presenting the start of the video and the action beginning. Using a DJ deck instead of just a normal stereo makes it more exciting and give the video more of a party feel from the off set , exciting the viewers.  The nail art which the model in this shot is wearing is a good representation of modern day youth and the way which they use cosmetics as a form of expression.

Above are the shots which we took for the bath scene, the walls of the room are not white as we originally planned however the colour of these will be consistent on the colour of the bed sheets which we use for the other in house shots.
The use of the barbie doll in the first video is a prop which will be used more than once in the video , as we initially planned for this to be used as a representation of frances , the main model , by throwing it off the roof. When filming these scenes we decided that it would be a good idea to bring this prop in earlier in the video so that it is not as random and does not confuse the viewer when it appears and has an important role on the roof scene.
Showing the model kissing the rubber ducks and flicking them off the side is a form of parody that she is in the bath , fully clothed , however playing with children toys. She is forced to grow up quickly and take part in explicit actions but is still a child at heart.
The glossy bath in this scene works well with the plastic , glamourised look of our video and we have kept our colour scheme through keeping the model wearing red lipstick and nail varnish . In addition adding extra pops of colour with the rubber ducks and barbie.

Filming DJ Mask

For the part of our song where the lyrics are sung by a techno/electronic voice, one of which all of us interprted to be being sung by a mystery man. The way which we chose to portray this in the video was by using a scream ask to add a sense of mystery as the viewers. We filmed this on a stage, with the curtains pulled and no lights to achieve complete darkness. The only light which we used was the torch feature on iphones in order to get the strobe lighting effect. We prefer the shot which includes the flashing light as this works well with the fast pace of the video and song.
This was such as quick and easy shot for us to film and works really well for the part of the video which it will be used in.

Hand Designs for Digi Pack & Complementing Research

Using the research which we have carried out on the different styles of digipack we did not want to make an assumptions about what would 'suit our theme' without trying it out so. Below you can see a range of designs which incorporate different styles of covers, inside image, disk, spine and reverse cover to see which of these complement each other to create the best digipack we can.

Rough Cut

Below is the Rough Cut for our video , there are some blank spaces as we have not been able to film these yet due to adverse weather conditions. We exported the rough cut of our video in order to meet the deadline but will fill in the blank spaces when improving the video for the final cut

Specific Cover Research

After general research we have found that the style of digipack cover which we want to use for our album is a close up shot of the models face with a plain background, allowing the audience to focus on the artist without being distracted.
After deciding this I have looked at digtipacks of album covers which use this style of shot on their front cover to research into further detail what they include on the rest of the pack.

Black and white with the artists name in pink writing to burst colour onto the front cover. The pink writing is the same pink as the on the disk with the black cross on the disk linking to the black on the front cover. However the back cover to this CD case is dark which makes it difficult to read the writing of the album track-list.

This focuses the front cover on the artists face which is the way we want to portray the artist in our front cover of the digi-pack. However the writing is a bit difficult to read because the carved in and glitter effect does not make it stand out and easy to read. The back cover of the digi-pack has similar writing and i think this makes the CD cover look messy and difficult to read.

I can tell this is lot harsher with the make up very dark which does not suit the look we are going for but the close up shot of the face is effective in capturing the artists mood within the music. The plain white background makes the writing clear so it is easy to read the title of the song. However, the plain white of the background is boring to look at and would not attract people.

We all agree that we really like the way the face is shown up close on the front cover and the back of the head on the back cover. The CD is consistent with the same text displayed on the front cover displayed on the disc. The way the titles of the song are displayed on the artists white background is clear and makes it easier to read.

Reshooting Maisies Mums

Filming this session was a lot easier than any of the other filming sessions that we had carried out as we had already done it once and was only doing it again due to lighting issues the first time around.
Not only was it easier as we knew what we needed to film, but also were confident with the shots so was able to develop and improve them further.

All of the above were shots which we had previously filmed in the first session and therefore were the easier ones to carry out as not only us, but the model as well was familiar with the task.
We are very happy with the way that this shots have turned out and that there is a clear improvement as we taken the time out of our schedule to refilm them.

This was a new shot which we filmed  , in the same position which the model was sitting in when previously putting on her shoes. We spontaneously thought of this shot while shooting in the location and was very happy with the mise en scene. The actions of the model in this shot follow the theme of the video being rebellious and enjoying her youth by showing her drinking from a bottle of alcohol.

The dog was not a scene which we previously filmed however was something which we had planned from the beginning. this scene works particularly well with the fur of the coat being of a close colour to the dog. The background and lighting in this shot work well together allowing it to look crisp with no shadows.

Another spontaneous shot that we filmed was this of the model and Maisie dancing together on the bed which Francis has previously been shot on. Not only does this bring them together and make it obvious that they are friends but also is a good way of introducing Maisie before they are seen together during the outside shots and Maisie is on the swing.

General Digipack Cover Research

We feel as if our video has a very distinct style and target audience that it will be appealing to. It is important that we find the right style of artwork so create for our artists single in order to attract the right audience by capturing the feel of the video in the artwork, which is normally seen before the video.

In order to do this we have looked at a range of different covers in order to find a style most fitting for ours.

  • A black and white cover would not be fitting for our cover due to the prominent colour scheme of bright  red , white and black throughout the video
  • The model not making eye contact with the camera is not very engaging
  • The bold title in a clear fold makes it easy to read and distinguish the artist
  • The fonts of the artist and title not matching looks inconsistent and messy
  • The body position of the artist would not work for our cover due to it being too complex for the simplicity and forwardness of our model. However this shows a good amount of the artists body in terms of close up

  • A close up , forward facing shot with eye contact is engaging for the audience
  • Lots of colours on the cover would not work for us , we should stick to our strict colour scheme of black , white and red
  • The border around the edge is distracting and it would be a better cover if it was just the middle section
  • The complex font is not that easy to read and the colour is too near to the light background

  • Head shot and clear eye contact is something that would work well for our cover due to our models striking facial structure
  • Colour matching between the colour used on the lips , eye make up and colour of the font giving the cover a well finished look
  • The artist name at the top and the title at the bottom makes it look more like a portrait than a CD cover

  •  A lot of colours being used makes it look very busy and distracts attention away from the artists picture
  • The artists name being right at the top of the page makes it slightly invisible.
  • A long shot of the body facing backwards is not very engaging and looks like shes turning her back on the audience

  • This is a cover which would work well for an established artists.
  • This would more as reminder advertising for an artists that does not need a large amount of promotion and would therefore would not work for an emerging artist like ours.
