Filming Projector

This scene which includes using a projector which the model would dance in front of was one which we had planned from the start and was one which we were excited to film, however was one of the most difficult to arrange with our model as it meant brining her into school in order to use the projector and screen equipment.

This was filmed using the projector and screen in our schools assembly hall, with the curtains pulled behind so that it was dark and the light did not escape, making it screen brighter. We also used two photography lamps facing onto the model to light her face and extenuate her features. We soon realised that we would need to make her higher ad the screen did not go all the way down to the floor and therefore laid out a line of chairs for her to walk along however there was little room for dancing.

We then saw a number of stage blocks which were stacked up behind a curtain and was able to make a set of steps as well as as wider area for our model to dance on which was much more stable and effective.

As planned, the we projected a number of different optical illusions onto the screen for the model to dance in from of. Yet again this is another very random scene in the video fits so perfectly due to the fast movement of it, colour scheme and as well as it just being very fun. In addition to this it is a way of showing the confusion which people may have towards the video and the antics of those who we are portraying in it. It is stereotyped that modern day youth are misunderstood and this is a way of conveying it.
Frances is dressed in a mesh top which as well as fitting with provocative theme, allows the lighting to go through it due to all the many holes.

Here is an example of the optical illusions we projected onto the screen;

After researching into the different types of titles which can be included in a video, we found that we can include these in the middle of the video as well as at the beginning. Although it was not originally planned, when going over what we would be doing in this shot we come up with the idea of using the screen to project ' we are who we are'. We used a number of different fonts to write this which portrays the message of originally which 'we are who we are' means.

Clothing Research

After researching the type of video which we will be creating, we have begun to look into the costume type that our main character and extras in the video will be wearing. From the videos that we have focused our research, it has become apparent that music videos of this type use a large amount of block colour , as well as sticking largely to quite a basic and specif colour scheme.

The style of clothing that we will be dressing our main model in for the video has a link of the message of youth and rebellion that we are conveying throughout. Slightly provocative outfits is another way that we will use irony to represent the stereotype of youth that is portrayed in the media.

Below are some gifs which I have created showing images from videos similar to what we aim to create. They contain images of the clothing  that the main charterers in these videos are wearing which is a similar style to what we will convey in our video. Due to the complexity and large amount of colours that we plan to use in our video we will be keeping the clothing to a basic standard and will keep a colour scheme of white, black and red throughout.

Miley Cyrus; We Cant Stop.

Robyn Thicke; Blurred Lines

Iggy Azeala; Change Your Life & Work

Here are also some specific  shots that we want to use as inspiration for the costume in our video.

After carrying out research , we have began to look into where we are able to purchase the clothing for our video our acquire it from sources that we already have.

Filming Viewpoint

The final scene of our video , which will last for around 15 seconds will show the main model and some of her friends which have also been featured in the video at a view point. This is a calmer end to the video and shows their reflection over their antics in a more quaint environment however they still have the same mischievous ways.

We filmed this on the top level of a car park which had mountainous scenery surrounding it, where we was worked well as there was somewhere for the models to sit therefore adding to the more relaxed vibe. The day which we filmed it on was not the best in terms of weather therefore making the scene slightly more dull than we would have hoped for, for our plasticy looking video. There was no where for lighting to be plugged into in this outside environment meaning we had to solely rely n the weather, which failed us. We also found that we were quite effected by the wing which was strong, especially on the top level car park.

The costume of the models in this scene followed a theme of tartan which fitted into our colour scheme and also is very on trend which is a factor we are considering as important in the video due to its target audience. In reflection we do not think that these outfits work as it looks more like a uniform which is not what we want as that is not realistic for a group of friends to go out wearing the same thing. We also feel that the leggings and long sleeve tops that the two blonde models are wearing do not fit with the provocative , edgy look that is seen throughout the rest of the video.

All of the above videos show the model and her two friends slightly less energetic than previously as the video comes to a close however they still remain rebellious as they seem to be disturbing the quiet area. We are happy with the base of this scene and will trim and cut them together to make the sequence fast paced. At the end of this shot we were asked to leave the premises as it was private property that we should not be filming on, therefore if this scene needs to be re shot it must be done at an alternative location.

Filming Ripping Tights and Money

These two scenes which we filmed yesterday are to be used at differently points of the video however when having the correct mise en scene and equipment at Lucys house, we utilized our time as effectively as possible to ensure that we met our final deadline and filmed both of these scenes in one session.

Ripping Money

The actions of this scene show the model having a not caring attitude as well as rebellion; a main message we are aiming to convey in our video. We filmed an extra model ripping up £50 notes against a ripped wall, playing on a stereotype that youth today waste money as well as a reference to the lyrics "tearing it apart". We printed the money on both sides to make it look as realistic as possible and filmed it against a brick wall as we though that the red notes would work well with the brick wall background. Choosing to shoot the model wearing a black faux fur coat was a way of representing money which people display but don't actually have as well as fitting in with our colour scheme.

Ripping Tights

This was a scene which we originally planned as a result of initial research however it did not look as good as we originally planned.  We filmed this in an outside and in a small amount of time which it was not raining on this day. The weather was very dull and it seems that this has reflected in the scene, it is by no means as fun as we wanted. The clothing which was inspired in similar scenes from our research was no effective as it looked too natural and dull not matching with the plastic feel of our video where synthetic looking clothing should be worn.

Filming Running Hill

This was a clip which we decided to film for a part in the video where there is no lyrics, only fast beating music. We all thought that this needed some running to the beat of it and decided that a large group running down a hill would look as if they was running away from doing something wrong/ causing trouble. The stampede of girls running down the hill was filmed outside in our school grounds as it was the only place which we could get this number of people at some form of hill together, however this was not ideal as the hill was minimal and there was problems with the mise en scene such as poles and signs in the way.

The weather was also not on our side as it began to rain as soon as we got everyone to location, making the scene harder to film as it very slippery. It was due to this that unfortunately we were not able to film this any more than once as one of the girls fell over straight into the mud and the rest abandoned set with her !

We are not happy with this scene in the slightest and feel that despite it being a good idea, the clothing, brightness and mise en scene of the shot does not fit with out video. The only thing that does is that it is clear that these people are genuine friends running away from something ( which they were to get inside from the rain !)

Filming Bar/Shed

The location for these shots was a converted summer house which has a number of rooms in, allowing us to film a range of our planned shots for the video in one place. This location was perfect for our video as it realisticly looks like the sort of place the people shown in our video would be spending time with friends.

All of the videos which can be seen below are long and will not be used entirely in the video. By filming longer amounts like we have we are able to pick out the good bits and use them as shorts cuts which all of our scenes throughout are. They are also, quite obvious, not scripted or too far set up allowing the models to act natural and therefore get us the most realistic shots as after all these are the type of people we are wishing to portray in the video.

Bar Scenes

2/3 of us had never seen this location before however were pleasantly surprised when we arrived as it was set up so perfectly for the shots we were going to be filming. The bar being in the corner of the room meant we could light it easier and more effectively; in addition the mirror helped to make the scene brighter , fitting with our platicy feel.
The mise on scene which was already there, for instance the grafiti on the walls and bottle holders were perfect for our video, giving it a young feel. we altered some smaller aspects for example the red cups and bottles to ensure it was all fitting with our colour scene.

Filmed in small room next to the bar, these scenes were much more difficult to light due to limited lighting in the room and not  a lot of room for our lamps meaning we could only just squeeze them through the door way. Again we choose to use the exercise equipment as it was something that we picked up on in our research and thought it had such an edgy feel as they would not be using in the correct way, again showing rebellion. The point that these people are not serious about the exercise is obvious due to the clothing, full faces of make up and sunglasses; they are just having fun.

An unplanned scene which we filmed in this location was this one, using the set up of a long sofa in front of a white wall to our advantage. This was a very natural scene and just shows the models singing along to the song and enjoying each other company. It is also a way which we can show the models spending time in the same location through showing them with the same clothing on in a similar environment. We put the disco lights on in the background which gave it more of a party vibe which this location would be perfect for.

After carrying out extensive title research before beginning filming we found that these did not always have to be at the beginning of the video and therefore was looking for opportunity throughout to emphasize the clear message of 'we are who we are' which is also a repetitive lyric throughout. This sequence will also be a good way of connecting all of the characters together as friends therefore not leaving the viewers confused to who random people are if they are not directly with Frances in a scene.
